🪧We hear so much about how polarized we are as a society -- the "my side is right" and "theirs is wrong" mentality. We hear less about what led people to these beliefs. Reporter Mark Zdechlik traces how some of these voters got to where they were in their thinking in a new series.

Coming up at 9 a.m.

📱Scrolling through social media posts has become central to young people’s lives, but there’s also a growing conversation about the downsides of too much screen time. Constant connectivity is linked to an increase in teen mental health struggles, attention problems and slumps in academic achievement. MPR News correspondent and guest host Catharine Richert talks about how parents, educators and teens themselves are trying to better manage screen time for their health and wellbeing.

📞 And we want to hear from you, too. If you’re a parent, does your child have a smartphone and how are you managing when, where and how your child can use it? What do you notice about your child’s social media use? If you’re a teacher or educator, how do you see students use smartphones and other connected devices at school? Do you have strategies that help students focus less on their screens and more on learning and relationships at school? Call 651-227-6000 or 800-242-2828 during the 9 a.m. hour.

Minnesota wins inaugural PWHL championship, takes home Walter Cup

Kendall Coyne Schofield once showed off her speed racing against the men in an NHL skills competition at All-Star weekend.

On Wednesday night, she made a mad dash into women's hockey history.

The three-time Olympian chased down a rolling puck and knocked it into an empty net to seal Minnesota's 3-0 victory over Boston in the winner-take-all Game 5 to claim the inaugural championship of the Professional Women’s Hockey League.

Two years after a tornado Forada finds a new sense of community

On May 30, 2022, an EF-2 tornado leveled much of Forada. Since then, the small west-central town has almost fully recovered. While some residents lost everything, in the months and years that followed many said they have gained something in the meantime — a sense of community.

“The process is long. It’s not an easy thing. And if I ever had the opportunity to build a new home again, I don’t think I’d do it,” Mike Grove reflected. “If this happens again, we’re going to just light a match and walk away.”

What else we're watching:

🗳️ For this Minnesota voter backing Biden, a fear of Trump is a motivating factor.
Democratic President Joe Biden has work to do to energize the coalition that put him into office. For some voters who prefer him, fear of the alternative is a driving force.

🏒 PWHL Minnesota fans cheer on the team in Boston and at home.  Minneapolis women’s sports bar A Bar of Their Own was packed to capacity by puck drop. Fans were being turned away at the door as patrons inside, wearing purple hockey jerseys and sweatshirts, watched Game 5 of the championship series against Boston.

🏀Timberwolves 'pinch me' season continues Thursday night in Minneapolis with Game 5. Can they do it? It is the question Timberwolves fans and NBA analysts are asking as the team faces the Mavericks in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals Thursday night at Target Center. Every game is critical for third-seeded Minnesota, with them being down 3-1 in a best-of-seven series.

🏆 TikTok: Fans reflect on first season of professional women’s hockey in Minnesota. And they’re champions! The Minnesota PWHL team has won the inaugural Walter’s Cup after winning Game 5 of the Professional Women's Hockey League finals on Wednesday, May 29. They beat Boston 3-0 in the final game of the series.
