🌞 Wednesday brings bright blue skies and sunshine. Temperatures will feel summery for a change with highs in the 80s.  

☔ All forecast models agree it will rain across much of Minnesota at some point Thursday. Overall rainfall totals look heavy by Friday morning across southern Minnesota. A wide swath of 1 to 2 inches is likely with locally higher totals. Get the latest weather news on Updraft.

Circumnavigating Lake Superior in a kayak is no easy feat, let alone solo. 20-year-old Cale Prosen might have just become the youngest and fastest to do it, completing his thousand-mile journey in just 42 days. And the triple major at the College of St. Scholastica took just one day off after final exams before hitting the water. Back home now, Cale joins us to talk about what motivated his solo trek.

And you probably saw that incredible video last week of water surging around the Rapidan Dam near Mankato. The partial failure renewed concerns about the safety of Minnesota's aging dams. Kirsti Marohn reports that a growing number of communities are switching to rock rapids and allowing rivers to flow more freely.

Vandalism or art? Seniors at Episcopal Homes learn about the art of graffiti with new mural

Residents of a senior housing facility in St. Paul took an interest in the art of graffiti after classes were offered by Twin Cities graffiti artist Peyton Scott Russell. He is known for his 12-foot mural of George Floyd he created for George Floyd Square in 2020.

Not every resident took to graffiti at first. Many of them come from a generation where graffiti was viewed as vandalism. Residents expressed that they see the beauty in it and try to find the deeper meanings now.
 
Minneapolis electronic dance community grieves beloved DJ found dead in Olmsted County

Liara Tsai, who was found dead on June 22, will be remembered by her friends and loved ones as a talented DJ who wanted to make Minneapolis her home.

For the past two years she has played at underground house shows across the city and at events held by Intellephunk, one of the biggest promoters in the local electronic dance scene. She even had recently become a crisis counselor for Intellephunk.
 
What else we're watching:

💧 As concerns grow, more aging dams are replaced with rock rapids to let rivers flow.
In about 75 Minnesota locations, old dams have been removed and replaced with staircase-like rapids designed to allow the river to flow more freely and to avoid costly dam repairs — or worse, a collapse.

🏠 Listen: Key differences in homelessness between greater Minnesota and the metro. Jason Urbanczyk is an advocate with Minnesota Coalition for the Homeless. He’s working to address homelessness statewide and regionally in Moorhead and shared with us what a new report says.

🔥 A new federal rule could offer protection from extreme heat to millions of workers. A proposed rule from the the Occupational Safety and Health Administration would for the first time set in place regulations to better protect workers from extreme heat.

😸 Sanctuary rescues cat thrown from 12th floor of Minneapolis apartment.
A cat thrown from a 12th-story apartment balcony in Minneapolis last month is recovering after a Twin Cities animal sanctuary arranged intensive veterinary care. The year-old tabby named Rue suffered a broken leg, foot and jaw, but no internal injuries.

🌊 ‘Minnesotans are resilient’: Flooding assessments continue; Walz visits flood-damaged Rapidan Dam site. Gov. Tim Walz visited the site of the Rapidan Dam and updated residents on flooding relief as well as conditions of the County Road 9 bridge after suffering damages from the raging floodwaters.
