| | In Dakota County, public libraries rethink their role to meet needs beyond books |
Minnesota libraries still hold books and host story time, but they’re also trying to meet new public demands for digital titles, remote worker space, Wi-Fi and social services. In Dakota County, officials are remaking their library system in real time.
“We’re seeing much more of an increase in individuals with insecure housing in the library. We’re also seeing more people who are experiencing crises of different levels,” said Margaret Stone, director of the Dakota County Library system and its 10 branches. | |

🤸🏽 Olympic trials vaults Minneapolis to record hotel revenue. Meet Minneapolis, the city’s tourism and hospitality organization, says the city set a new record for hotel room revenue in a month, raking in more than $42.3 million in June. They estimate that it brought in around $2.75 million in incremental taxes for the city.
🚨 Trooper charged in fatal wreck suspended after prior crashes. The Minnesota state trooper charged Tuesday with killing a woman during a high-speed chase in May had been suspended twice previously for crashing his squad car and received written reprimands for two additional crashes.
