| Business owners, labor advocates clash over proposed Minneapolis labor standards board | While specific details are still in the works, in general the board — if formed — would be able to study specific industries in Minneapolis, like property services or restaurants.
The board would form subcommittees specific to an industry, made up of workers, business owners and community stakeholders, like consumers and academics. Subcommittees could come up with recommendations for new regulations, to be forwarded to the City Council for consideration. | |

| Quality coffee, Ojibwe language and a little magic are brewing on Fond du Lac Band’s reservation | On the Fond du Lac Band’s reservation, one family is energizing the community through quality coffee. MiigWitches Brew is the only coffee shop on the reservation and one of a few Native-owned shops in the state.
In the Ojibwe language, coffee is Makade-mashkikiwaaboo, which means “black medicine water.” MiigWitches Brew is hoping to incorporate more of the language into signage and traditional drinks as they move forward. And the wordplay in their name refers to Miigwich, “thank you” in Ojibwe. | |

| St. Paul native Joe Mauer will be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame | St. Paul native Joe Mauer will be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame this weekend, along with three other former Major League Baseball players, including a manager.
He’s the fourth St. Paul native to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, after Dave Winfield, Paul Molitor and Jack Morris.
“St. Paul is a very proud city and a proud town and especially their baseball history,” he said. “As a kid growing up there in St. Paul, watching three guys play at the highest level, winning championships and doing some special things in the game made me dream and make me say that this could come to reality. To be mentioned with those guys and to be in that group — it’s pretty special.” | |

Private well users can receive free water test kits to check for contamination with the option to apply for financial assistance in fixing any contamination. This can include installing water treatment equipment, fixing wells or sometimes even installing a new well.
📻 At 23, Wendell Epps is making his mark as the new voice of the Minnesota Lynx. The man behind the mic doing play-by-play for Lynx Radio on KFAN is a new voice. Wendell Epps is just 23 years old and is also the first Black and Hispanic person to do play-by-play for the organization.
🧑🏽⚖️ Minnesota Supreme Court to hear case of transgender athlete’s competition participation. The Minnesota Supreme Court announced last week that it plans to hear the case of a transgender woman who was denied entry into a powerlifting competition.
✨ Annika Grassl uses her own experiences to create inclusive spaces for others. Annika Grassl got her start in disability advocacy work as a high school student, where she was denied the resources she needed as a student with cerebral palsy and low vision. She was able to transfer to a high school that was able to meet her needs, but she noticed that many more students with disabilities were not as lucky as her.
