Minnesota's delegation, too, has fallen in line, despite some of its members supporting other Republican presidential hopefuls earlier in the campaign. ‘Spike Moss Way’: Minneapolis names section of Plymouth Avenue after civil rights champion

Hundreds of people gathered in Minneapolis on Tuesday as the city named a section of Plymouth Avenue north after Harry “Spike” Moss, whose activism has deep roots along the historic street.

“I’m telling you that Spike Moss was the leader, the valiant, brave brother that inspired me and a whole generation,” said Attorney General Keith Ellison. “Your Minnesota president of the Minnesota Senate is Bobby Joe Champion, a disciple of Spike Moss. Your Minnesota attorney general grew up listening to Spike Moss.”
 
Brittanie Hernandez-Wilson leads the conversation on ableism and intersectionality

Brittanie Hernandez-Wilson is equity and justice director for The Arc Minnesota, an organization advocating for the rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

“Ableism is the thread that binds,” she says. “It’s a shapeshifter, and every other form of oppression is influenced and strengthened by ableism.”
 
Unicycle enthusiasts from around the globe descend on Bemidji for Unicon 21

Even fans will admit unicycle riding is a niche sport. However that hasn’t stopped more than 1,200 people from around the world from meeting in Bemidji for Unicon 21.

Events over the next two weeks encompass workshops, social events and games. But there are also competitions for those who want to prove to themselves and others that they’re the best on one wheel. They’re divided into seven categories: track, freestyle, urban, muni, road and the team sports of basketball and hockey.
 
What else we're watching:

🐘 Minnesota’s Tom Emmer gets time at RNC to boost Trump, who hasn’t always reciprocated. Trump succeeded in toppling Emmer’s bid for House speaker last fall by questioning whether he was conservative enough. That came despite Emmer’s generally positive relationship with the former president.

🙋🏾‍♀️ New Minneapolis civil rights director sworn in. Michelle Phillips was sworn in Tuesday as the new director of the Minneapolis Civil Rights Department, taking the role after a string of administrative turnover, and amid ongoing police reform efforts.

⛺ Duluth debates ordinance to crack down on homelessness encampments. The Duluth City Council is weighing a controversial ordinance making camping on city land a misdemeanor crime. Critics say it criminalizes homelessness. Duluth officials say the change would help get people services.

🌲 Minneapolis City Council passes resolution in favor of striking park workers.
The Minneapolis City Council passed a resolution Tuesday in support of striking park workers, further amplifying a labor dispute that has proven itself unusual in more ways than one.

👀 What is known and not known about the attempt on Trump’s life and its aftermath.
So far, details about the man who authorities say tried to kill former President Donald Trump amount to little more than a stick-figure drawing:  a politically enigmatic loner who worked in a nursing home.

🏫 New U of M president lays out priorities for teaching hospital and enrollment numbers. The University of Minnesota’s new president Dr. Rebecca Cunningham gave a glimpse into her top priorities as she takes the helm. Among them: the university’s teaching hospital, campus protests and enrollment declines.

🏛️ Federal building posthumously renamed in honor of former U.S. Sen. Paul Wellstone. A federal building in downtown Minneapolis was officially renamed Tuesday afternoon in honor of former U.S. Sen. Paul Wellstone, who died in 2002 in a plane crash with his wife, daughter and staffers.

🔍 Minnesota DNR investigating employee comments about attempted assassination of Trump. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says it’s investigating a personal social media post made by one of its employees, in the wake of the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

🌊 States challenge EPA rule to protect tribal treaty rights. The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in North Dakota, claims the rule exceeds the Environmental Protection Agency authority to administer the Clean Water Act.

🧑🏻‍⚖️ Minnesota’s ban on gun carry permits for young adults is unconstitutional, appeals court rules. Attorney General Keith Ellison, whose office represented the state in the case, said he was “extremely disappointed” in the ruling.
