🏅 St. Paul's Suni Lee is taking home three Olympic medals from Paris, adding a bronze in uneven bars to her trove on Sunday. MPR News' Peter Cox brings us the story.

Gov. Walz reportedly still on Kamala Harris' VP shortlist, announcement could come Monday

Within the next day, we should learn whether Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz lands the Democratic vice presidential nomination — or gets passed over for another candidate.

He has catapulted to the top tier of choices for Kamala Harris, the current vice president who will lead the party’s ticket in November. Harris deliberated over the pick Sunday in Washington, where Walz and other contenders reportedly sat for final interviews.

Walz abruptly canceled a trip to New Hampshire, where he was supposed to attend some Democratic Party rallies on Sunday. Multiple news outlets cited sources saying Walz had made his way to Washington for a face-to-face meeting with Harris.
 
Sunisa Lee couldn't get out of bed in December. Now she has three Olympic medals in Paris

For the better part of a year, Lee was largely grounded. The struggle to get a pair of kidney diseases under control led her weight to fluctuate wildly. At one point, the 2020 Olympic champion believes she put on 45 pounds. In December, she was bedridden.
 
Regan Smith leads off for record setting gold race in 4x100-meter medley

The U.S. women powered to a dominant lead early in the 4-by-100 meter medley relay on Sunday. The only real question was whether the swimmers would shatter the world record set by another U.S. American team in 2019.

They never relented, winning gold and beating the record by nearly a second with a time of 3:49.63. The Americans finished more than three seconds ahead of the Australian team that took silver. Chinese women won bronze.

🌊 New North Shore preserve protects rare wetlands and geology. The 25-acre Icelandite Coastal Fen Scientific and Natural Area along the North Shore of Lake Superior protects a rare coastal wetland and a unique kind of volcanic rock.
 

🙅 Rochester legislator wakes up to racist graffiti at her house. Minnesota Rep. Kim Hicks, DFL-Rochester, woke up to Nazi symbols and racial slurs spray-painted on her home Saturday morning. Hicks is white and her husband is Black. They live with six of their children.

🗳️ Harris has momentum, but the race is still tight. Here are the paths to the presidency. Donald Trump currently holds a 268-226 lead over Kamala Harris in the latest NPR Electoral Map of the most competitive states, just short of the 270 needed to win the presidency.

 Twins top White Sox 13-7, handing Chicago its 20th straight loss. The woeful Chicago White Sox have lost their 20th consecutive game, the majors’ longest skid in 36 years and one short of the American League record.
