Harris introduces new running mate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as the ‘vice president America deserves’

Kamala Harris introduced Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz to the nation at a raucous rally Tuesday in battleground Pennsylvania that was aimed at building momentum for the newly minted Democratic presidential ticket in the sprint toward Election Day.

Taking the microphone after Harris, Walz revved up the crowd for the rigorous campaign to come. “We’ve got 91 days. My God, that’s easy. We’ll sleep when we’re dead,” he said.
 
Harris, Walz, Vance set to speak in competing campaign events in Eau Claire

Vice President and Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris and her new running mate, Gov. Tim Walz, will visit the western Wisconsin city as part of a larger battleground state tour. The Grammy award-winning band Bon Iver, founded by Eau Claire native Justin Vernon, will perform during the rally.

Tailing the Harris campaign’s state tour is Republican vice presidential candidate Sen. JD Vance. Vance will also campaign in Eau Claire on Wednesday. Vance plans to trail Harris and Walz, a tactic known as “bracketing,” through four key states. On Tuesday, both the Harris/Walz campaign and JD Vance held rallies in Philadelphia.
 
Memes, jokes, silly photos of Walz emerge after he’s picked to be VP candidate

On Tuesday, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz was announced as Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate for the Democratic ticket for president.

The announcement put the spotlight on Minnesota and its second-term governor with a folksy demeanor, spurring jokes and memes. Minnesotans jumped at the chance to poke fun at their eccentricities and highlight their culture on the national stage.

💰 Hennepin County commissioners withdraw proposal to give themselves a 49 percent pay bump.  Hennepin County commissioners were set to vote Tuesday on whether to give themselves a 49 percent pay increase. Instead, they withdrew the proposal entirely after resident opposition.

Michael Fairbanks took the oath of office for his second four-year term Tuesday. He said the tribe’s cannabis business is a great success, and he is pleased with the progress made in its recent "land back" campaigns.

⚽ U.S. women’s soccer team defeats Germany and will play for Olympic gold in Paris. The U.S. women’s national team, one of the world’s most dominant and successful programs, hadn’t made it to the gold medal game at an Olympics since 2012. The U.S. will now play for its fifth gold medal.
