☀️ High pressure will keep things warm, mostly dry and bring lots of sun Monday and Tuesday. Temperatures will be back in the low to mid-80s across central and southern Minnesota with upper 70s in northeast Minnesota.

🗳️ The Democratic National Convention begins Monday in Chicago. Minnesota will play a large role this year as Gov. Tim Walz is on the top ticket. MPR Politics Reporter Clay Masters tees up the DNC and the party's plans to introduce Walz. And MPR's Feven Gerezgiher introduces us to the youngest delegate at the convention, 17-year-old Isaac Winkler.

👮 An increasing number of people are entering the U.S. illegally through Canada. Officials in these mostly rural areas blame Congress and the White House for the uptick. Cara Chapman reports for NPR about this new reality facing northern border communities.

Minnesota gets front-row role in Democratic National Convention with Walz on presidential ticket

This week in Chicago, Gov. Tim Walz, will get a national introduction to voters.

It’s been something of a blur for Walz already — not even two weeks after he shot into the picture as the running mate of Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris.

The campaign has little time to introduce this relatively unknown governor to voters. The convention in Chicago will be a huge part of that and many speakers will be building him up.
 
On Cross Lake, loons make the case for protecting wild shores

Environmental advocates are tapping into Minnesotans’ passion for loons to focus attention on how lake health and natural shorelines are vital for the survival of Minnesota’s beloved state bird. Loons’ eerie calls are a familiar soundtrack on Minnesota lakes each summer. Lake residents often eagerly await the return of nesting pairs in the spring, and some even keep tabs on how many chicks are born.

🗳️ This Minnesota teen is the youngest delegate in the country headed to the DNC. At 17 years old, Isaac Winkler of Golden Valley will be the youngest delegate in the country going to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago this week.

🌕 What to know about Monday's blue supermoon. The full moon will be a blue supermoon, a celestial occurrence that combines two events: a supermoon, which is when the moon is closest to the Earth; and a blue moon, the third of fourth full moons in a single season.

🤘 ‘Anthem to the good times and the bad’: Metallica fans descend on U.S. Bank Stadium. Heavy metal rockers Metallica sold tens of thousands of tickets to two shows over the weekend. The tour stop is expected to be the largest two-day indoor music event in Minnesota by attendance for a single artist in 2024.

🗣️ Trump zigzags between economic remarks and personal insults at rally in critical Pennsylvania. Former President Donald Trump on Saturday again sought to deliver a campaign message focused on the economy, but the Republican repeatedly swerved into non-sequiturs and personal attacks, including twice declaring that he was better looking than Vice President Kamala Harris.

🚌 Harris and Walz make small town stops and campaign phone calls on Pennsylvania bus tour before DNC. Throughout their stops, Harris and Walz shied away from policy or much politics, instead sticking to broad-strokes messages focused on character, perseverance and the future of the country.
