It's day two of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, where delegates have officially formalized Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris' running mate. The first night was a tribute to President Biden's accomplishments in office, roughly one month after he ended his re-election bid, and a celebration of cracking the glass ceiling for women in politics.

If elected, Kamala Harris would become the first woman president of the United States. We speak with Minnesota delegate Lori Sellner, who's been to several Democratic conventions.

And Secretary of State Antony Blinken is pushing for a cease-fire in Gaza and says he had a constructive meeting yesterday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Now, as NPR's Kat Lonsdorf reports, Blinken heads to Egypt and Qatar to try to seal the deal.

It’s the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party. Except maybe in farm country

In Minnesota, there are fissures between rural and urban Democrats, and they’re front and center with Gov. Tim Walz emphasizing his rural roots as a vice-presidential candidate. Some Democrats feel like their party is out of touch with rural voters.

“There was a point in the late ‘80s when you could drive from the Canadian border to Iowa and western Minnesota, and never leave a DFL district. And slowly that eroded,” Jack Considine said.
 
Phyllis Wheatley summer camp continues in a new form — nature excursions along the Mississippi

The Phyllis Wheatley Community Center is preparing to rebuild and reopen its summer camp in Carver County. In the meantime, the center continues to teach young Minneapolis students about the great outdoors.

“What I like about the camp is that we get to do these field trips and get to explore nature,” Alaina, 9 , said.

🏛️ Ex-cop convicted in Floyd killing set for release. One of the former Minneapolis police officers convicted in the 2020 killing of George Floyd is due to be released from prison on Tuesday. Thomas Lane, who received the shortest sentence of the four ex-officers involved in Floyd’s death, is set to be the first to leave custody.

🧑🏼‍⚖️ House Republicans release impeachment report on Biden, but next steps are uncertain. House Republicans allege abuse of power and obstruction of justice in son Hunter Biden’s financial dealings. But the investigation stops short of alleging any criminal wrongdoing by the president.

🎧 Listen: Minnesota Paralympian Aaron Pike is no stranger to the world stage. The Park Rapids native has quite the resume. This will be Aaron’s seventh Paralympic games. He’s qualified for every summer and winter games since 2012.

🗳️ Trump will not cede the spotlight to Harris with a week of DNC counter programming. The political spotlight will shine bright on Vice President Harris this week, but former President Donald Trump has no plans of giving up all the attention. Trump and his running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, plan to visit vital swing states every single day this week.
