Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz gives his acceptance speech for the Democratic vice presidential nomination Wednesday at the party’s national convention. Walz had just two weeks to introduce himself to voters since current Vice President Kamala Harris picked him as her running mate.
“Trust me, my life is a lot crazier than it was 11 days ago,” Walz confided to one party crowd as he reflected on a bus swing through Pennsylvania over the weekend. “I never expected to be there.” | |

In her basement, Maureen Sorenson describes constructing her crop art as a type of therapy. She puts on the television in the background or sometimes a podcast. She takes her magnifying glasses and gets to work. The 75-year-old says she never does anything halfway.
“It might take me from 8 o’clock in the morning until 2:30 in the morning with a couple breaks, it is very meticulous,” she says. “I’m kind of like my mother, I can do something really well once — and in crop art, that’s all you get.” | |

After experiencing the difficulties of growing up as a two-spirit person in rural Minnesota, activist Arnold Dahl-Wooley is now working to help others and educate the larger community. He will take his message to the Bemidji Pride celebration this weekend.
“Native American two-spirits were male and female, and sometimes intersex individuals that combined activities of both that were unique to their gender or to their status as two-spirits,” Arnold Dahl-Wooley said. “And in most tribes, they were neither men nor women, but they occupied a distinct alternative gender status.” | |
