🎧 The Minnesota Department of Human Rights and the city of Minneapolis last month reached an agreement on how to overhaul the Minneapolis Police Department. A lot of hope is riding on the new legally-binding settlement. It marks the first time in Minnesota that a court will enforce specific changes in police operations. Coming up at 9 a.m. on Thursday, MPR News host Angela Davis talks about what’s in the agreement and whether it will usher in real change.

🙋 We want to hear from you, too. Do you think this agreement will improve how Minneapolis police officers interact with the public? Will it be effective in addressing concerns of police misconduct raised by the public, especially by communities of color? Call us at 651-227-6000 or 800-242-2828 during the 9 a.m. hour of the show or leave Angela a message on Facebook .

'Won’t let it go to waste’: Walz uses State of State to call for another Minnesota miracle

Gov. Tim Walz on Wednesday called on lawmakers to capitalize on the last four weeks of the session to pass a budget, approve gun control measures and safeguard abortion and LGBTQ rights.

During his fifth State of the State address — and the first in his second term — the governor ticked off the legislative achievements of the last few months. And he harkened back to the 1970s “Minnesota Miracle” to set some expectations for the Legislature as it wraps up a nearly $72 billion budget.

“Fifty years after the Minnesota Miracle, we have another chance to be America’s North Star,” he said. “An opportunity to carve out a corner of our country where no child is left hungry. Where no community is left behind. And nobody gets told they don’t belong.”
