Listen back to a conversation from earlier this year, as MPR News host Angela Davis talks about two restaurants that did just that for many Minnesotans — Khyber Pass in St. Paul and Keefer Court in Minneapolis.

Both restaurants closed in late 2022. And they’re not the only ones. A handful of other longtime Asian-owned restaurants in the Twin Cities closed in 2022. The New York Times reported in 2019 the share of Chinese-owned restaurants in major metropolitan areas is on the decline.

 
Will April debates bring May deals? This week at Minnesota Capitol could tell

As lawmakers near their deadline to close out the legislative session, they’ll meet in conference committees this week to try to agree on final versions of budget bills that both chambers can accept.

During these small group discussions, which may happen behind the scenes before they’re opened to the public, legislators will decide the shape of tax credits or rebates this year as well as some tax and fee hikes. They’ll also determine precisely how the state should spend a roughly $72 billion budget.

 
What else we're watching:
Arrest made in suspected Minneapolis mosque arsons. A 36-year-old Plymouth man suspected of arson at two Minneapolis mosques was taken into custody Saturday night in Mankato. He now faces federal arson charges.

If Minnesota legalizes weed, will marijuana-related criminal records be cleared? Minnesota may soon become the 23rd state to legalize recreational marijuana. And, like in other states that have already fully legalized weed, Minnesota lawmakers are proposing ways for people to get marijuana offenses cleared.

Proposed shift in funding for older adult services worries rural providers. Rural Minnesota agencies that serve seniors are concerned a revised funding formula will mean fewer dollars to serve growing demand.

Jessie Diggins' former ski coach to boycott 'Birkie' over gender equity concerns. A well-known cross-country skier and former coach in the Twin Cities is boycotting the American Birkebeiner— the largest Nordic ski race in the country — over concerns of gender equity.
