Another arctic air mass blows into Minnesota Thursday. Temperatures will hover in the teens south with subzero air across northern Minnesota. Get the latest on Updraft.

🎧 Setting foot outside your home in the middle of a Minnesota winter might make you want to run back indoors and hibernate until it warms up. There are people who enjoy winter, and Minnesota has a lot to offer them. Coming up at 9 a.m. on Thursday, MPR News guest host Dan Kraker talks about why you might want to plan an outdoor excursion during the coldest months of the year.

Minneapolis City Council too gridlocked to change homeless encampment approach
The Minneapolis City Council is made up of 13 members. Long a liberal city, one might think that agreement would be easier in Minneapolis than in other cities. Its current council is 12 DFLers and one with a socialist party, but the division is strong. And thanks to the new “strong mayor” structure that went into effect in 2022 , as approved by voters, the council doesn’t have the power to direct city staff to do, or stop doing, anything.
