🎧 Valentine’s Day shmalentine’s day. It doesn’t matter if you’re married or single, the most influential relationship that lasts a lifetime is the one you have with yourself. Self-love can influence how we comfort ourselves, motivate ourselves and fight for injustice. That’s why MPR News with Angela Davis is turning inward on Tuesday at 9 a.m. She’s talking with two self-love experts about what self-compassion is, what it isn’t and what stands in the way of loving ourselves.

Mayo 'mini brains' offer new ways to understand addiction

On the 19th floor of Mayo Clinic's Gonda building, tiny pearls of brain tissue are being grown in a lab. These so-called “mini brains” may help deepen the science of addiction.  

“It’s a national crisis. So many people die from opioid overdose,” researcher Ming-Fen Ho said. “When we started this study, the idea was of how we better treat those patients.”

'Taking up space’: Black designers focus on joy in Augsburg exhibition

Through an art exhibition at Augsburg University, Minneapolis designers and curators Olivia House and Silent Fox are developing their canon of the next generation Black designers.

“It was basically to amplify voices of the Black community and be able to share and reach an audience for the Black community that they normally don't have access to, or aren't aware of, the opportunities because they're not handed to them,” Fox says.

School community mourns death of 15-year-old Harding High student. Students and staff at Harding High School in St. Paul are grieving the loss of Devin Scott, who police say was stabbed to death by another student at the school on Friday.

3 people killed at Michigan State University. A gunman shot and killed three people and injured five others on the campus of Michigan State University Monday night before fatally shooting himself.

'It's just part of our rhythm': Minnesota artists on why people keep on writing love songs. Songs that explore the feeling of love — its thrills, spoils and spills — are everywhere, and they have been around for thousands of years. Around Valentine’s Day, the topic reaches a fever pitch, but it is a fountain eternal. Humans can’t help falling in love, and sometimes they hate themselves for loving a specific fellow human. Either way, the songs keep pouring out.

A different kind of love: 'Corduroy' opens at the Children’s Theatre Company. Playwright Barry Kornhauser discusses adapting a beloved children’s book to the stage, the story of a stuffed bear, a little girl and the love of friendship.

Meet the Minnesotan who integrated the NFL. South Minneapolis-raised Bobby Marshall joined the NFL as a quarterback in 1920, and went on to become a team captain and eventually a coach.
