Pastor and author Claude Atcho wants to see more people choosing to read African American authors. He wants this so much, in fact, that he wrote a book called Reading Black Books. Instructor and author Nana Dolce sees the history of redemption told through the stories of women in Scripture, so she herself wrote a book about those stories.
But authors aren’t the only ones with an eagerness to see Christians read more in general, and especially more widely across authors and genres. The Elisabeth Elliot Foundation, for example, will soon publish a collection of Elliot’s devotionals that were discovered posthumously. And here at CT, Amanda Dykes has curated a list of novels that speak to the transformative power of excellent fiction.
Books invite us into so many deep, human experiences, from learning new things to losing ourselves in a well-spun tale. Here’s to an end-of-summer season that has space for stories and time for the turning of a page.
