It’s awkward to talk about “winter” storms as we move deeper into spring, but winter best describes the type of weather that will occur across the Northland tomorrow and Friday. Winter storm watches will likely be upgraded to warnings later today across most of northern Minnesota. Get the latest on Updraft.

Rising rivers prompt more road, park closures around Minnesota
Water levels rising = highways, trails and bridges temporarily closing across the state. The St. Croix, Mississippi, Red and South Fork Crow rivers are either at or likely to enter major flood stages this week. Here's an interactive map and a sign-up for spring flooding update texts.

🚨 BCA provides new detail in killing of Pope County deputy; suspect ID'd
A confrontation Saturday night in Cyrus, Minn. left Pope County sheriff’s deputy Josh Owen dead and two other officers wounded. The three officers were in the process of arresting Bryan Nygard, 34, of Cyrus for suspected domestic violence when Nygard pulled out a gun and began firing, shooting Owen three times as Owen and Pope County deputy Brody Merrill returned fire. Nygard died from multiple gunshot wounds.

💊 Supreme Court extends freeze on changes to abortion pill access until Friday
The U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday extended until Friday at midnight an administrative stay in an ongoing lower-court fight over the FDA-approved use of the abortion pill mifepristone. The announcement kicks the can down the road on what the high court will do for another few days.

You’ve probably driven by Riverside Plaza, the concrete towers with primary colored flourishes reminiscent of a Mondrian painting. They were part of a utopian vision for the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood only partially realized, a story told in a doc called “Brutal Utopias” screening tonight at the Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival.
