Water trapped in snow cover is releasing more slowly into area rivers, and that may be slightly easing our significant flood risk this spring. The overall weather pattern still favors cooler and wetter than average weather over the next two weeks. Get the latest on Updraft.

Volunteers start sandbagging along riverfront in downtown Stillwater
Hundreds of volunteers in Stillwater have started filling sandbags — as many as 30,000 of them. Those sandbags will help secure a 2,000-foot-long berm designed to hold back the river, expected to start rising in the coming days.

Egg hatches, chick visible in Minnesota DNR's EagleCam nest
In cute and fluffy news, the chick in the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources’ EagleCam nest has hatched out of its egg. Spring has sprung! This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Minnesota DNR’s EagleCam livestream, where you can try and catch a glimpse of the youngster.

3 children, 3 adults fatally shot at Nashville grade school
A female shooter wielding two “assault-style” rifles and a pistol killed three students and three adults during a shooting at a private Christian preK-6 school in Nashville today. The suspect is dead after being "engaged by" officers, officials say.

🛣️ Fatal crash closes stretch of Highway 62 near Twin Cities airport
One person died in a crash early Monday that prompted a lengthy closure of a stretch of State Highway 62 — the Crosstown — near Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. The State Patrol said the crash happened just before 3:30 a.m.
Six wounded by gunfire in Brooklyn Center Sunday evening
Dozens of gunshots were fired in a parking lot last night. All six, with non life-threatening injuries, appeared to be teenagers, between the ages of 15 and 18.
🚂 Train derails in rural North Dakota and spills chemical south of Fargo
A Canadian Pacific train derailed in rural North Dakota last night and spilled hazardous materials, but local authorities and the railroad said there is no threat to public safety. There were no injuries and no fire associated with the derailment.
