This season's finest al fresco dining destinations

Picture the scene: you're soaking up the spring sunshine, surrounded by lush foliage and gorgeous Georgian buildings, and something mind-blowingly delicious is about to arrive at your table. Outdoor dining spots don't get much more elegant than in Mayfair and Belgravia.

These historic central London neighbourhoods both boast some of the best restaurants in the capital — from laid-back brunch spots to chic eateries that'll have you reaching for your glad rags (NB: while we fully support giving your jogging bottoms the night off, a stretchy waistband might come in handy).

With over 800 outdoor seats across the two neighbourhoods, you're spoilt for choice when it comes to al fresco dining. We've included some of our culinary highlights below, but there are plenty more to discover via the big blue button. Once you've picked your perfect spot, check out what else is nearby — with gorgeous boutiques, charming markets and outdoor art aplenty, you can really make a day of it.

Jean-Georges at The Connaught

The Connaught Hotel's stylish yet relaxed all-day restaurant is worth a trip for the terrace alone, which overlooks the beautiful Tadao Ando-designed fountain in Mayfair's Carlos Square (pictured left). As well as being a cracking spot for people watching, you can expect fabulous farm-to-fork produce and some very special pizzas.

Native at Browns

Pioneers of ethical dining, Native, have brought their award-winning menu to Browns on Molton Street. Swap the hustle and bustle for the oasis that is the restaurant's verdant terrace and tuck into beautiful seasonal dishes created using foraged ingredients.

Pantechnicon

Embark upon a culinary journey from Osaka to Oslo and from Hokkaido to Copenhagen at Pantechnicon, which celebrates Nordic and Japanese food and cultures. Pantechnicon is located on Belgravia's boutique-filled Motcomb Street, and its outdoor dining area is a great place to wrap up a luxury shopping spree.

Scott's Restaurant

For seafood connoisseurs, Scott's needs no introduction. This stunning Mount Street restaurant boasts a beautiful flower-strewn forecourt where you can tuck into elegant fish dishes, shellfish platters and champagne. If you've got a pescatarian to impress, this is the place to go.
