Ten Things You Need to Know for Monday - July 18, 2016

Good Monday morning from Salt Lake City. Today is the 200th day of the year. There are 166 days left in 2016.

The GOP convention in Cleveland gets underway. Utah was nearly chosen to host a presidential debate this year. Donald Trump reportedly tried to back out of picking Mike Pence as his running mate.

The clock:

  • The 2016 Republican National Convention in Cleveland starts today (7/18/2016)
  • Seven days to the 2016 Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia (7/25/2016)

Trump told CBS News' Leslie Stahl he didn't care that Pence supported the Iraq War, even though he has repeatedly hammered Hillary Clinton for her vote for the conflict [Talking Points Memo].
