Oldest Black-owned newspaper in Minnesota turning 90 years old

On Aug. 10, 1934, the Minneapolis Spokesman and the St. Paul Recorder began printing news for what was then a small, but growing, Black community. The papers would later be combined into the Minnesota Spokesman.

Demuth calls Harris-Walz agenda ‘extreme,’ out of touch with rural voters

Many supporters think Gov. Walz fits the vice presidential bill, but Minnesota House Minority Leader Lisa Demuth, R-Cold Spring, alleges that during his 2018 campaign for governor, Walz dismissed much of greater Minnesota.

Peggy Flanagan, the lieutenant governor of Minnesota and a citizen of the White Earth Band of Ojibwe, is poised to serve as the state’s next governor should Walz step down to accept the role of vice president of the United States. Her rise to power has been watched closely by Indigenous peoples in Minnesota and across the country who see her as a champion of policies that positively affect Native Americans.

From Indian Country Today: It was unlike any viewing of the nearly 50 year screening of “Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope.” The first released episode of the iconic series debuted Thursday in Canada, dubbed in Anishinaabemowin, the language of the Ojibwe.
