With Tim Walz on the Democratic ticket, MN Republicans also hop on national wave

Current and former GOP lawmakers and candidates have offered up critiques of Walz’s leadership in TV interviews, in print and on Capitol Hill. And local conservatives on social media have seen their follower counts boom by picking at Walz’s track record. Democrats have also been given a broader platform to laud Walz, and they’ve put the focus on more positive attributes and policy strides he’s helped steer through.

Vaccine hesitancy concerns physicians amid Minnesota measles outbreak

Minnesota’s measles outbreak has grown to 51 cases as of Thursday, and most infected are unvaccinated children in the Somali community living in Hennepin County, as confirmed by the state health department. Twelve people have been hospitalized. The majority of Minnesota’s measles cases this year affected people between the ages of one and 19. Children are at a higher risk of developing severe disease.

🚨 Minneapolis City Council approves expansion of ShotSpotter
Council members approved an extension to March 2026 with the company SoundThinking for its ShotSpotter technology. The council committed just over $422,000 to the expanded contract. ShotSpotter microphones are meant to detect loud, sudden noises and help police respond to gunshots.
🚗 Man who got plea deal in fatal carjacking now charged with fleeing police in stolen vehicle
Dakota County prosecutors allege that an Eagan police officer who received a stolen vehicle alert activated his emergency lights after pulling up behind the stopped vehicle on Sunday. Husayn Braveheart, the alleged driver, accelerated “to speeds more than 100 miles per hour at times,” “ran multiple stop signs” and maneuvered randomly from lane to lane on highways.
🚓 Police arrest man following 3 Minneapolis shootings that left 2 people dead
Police say the shootings occurred within a few blocks of a homeless encampment, which has been reportedly cleared. Encampment organizers called the eviction “senseless collective punishment” to the residents. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said he wants to see the city and the county collaborate further to stop encampments from forming.
📧 Emails reveal how Walz struggled to deal with unrest, reach consensus with critics after police killings
From ProPublica: In the spring of 2021, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz faced multiple crises. In them, he saw an opening to bring police reform to Minnesota and provide a national model for systemic change. He feared the 2021 session would be his last, best chance to do so.
