It’s Valentine’s Day at the Ramsey County Courthouse and 11 judges are standing inside of a room filled with heart-shaped decorations, ready to tie the knot for 29 couples.

Wednesday marks a day of action and remembrance for missing and murdered Indigenous people. Marches and events spanned across the state, where Minnesotans dressed in red will honor and draw awareness to lost loved ones.

At least 8 children among 22 hit by gunfire at end of Chiefs' Super Bowl parade; 1 person killed

Eight children were among 22 people hit by gunfire in a shooting at the end of Wednesday's parade to celebrate the Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl win, authorities said, as terrified fans ran for cover and yet another high-profile public event was marred by gun violence. One person was killed.

🏠 One dead, seven injured in Alexandria house fire

First responders found one man dead inside the home, and five other residents injured. An update on the conditions of the three people airlifted to the Twin Cities was not available Wednesday afternoon. An Alexandria police officer and a Douglas County sheriff’s deputy were injured during rescue efforts.

❄️ Winter weather advisories and winter storm warnings: Snow is on the way

A winter weather advisory is posted for portions of southern Minnesota, where several inches of snow could fall late Wednesday into Wednesday night, in addition to a rain and snow mix to start. A winter storm warning goes into effect at 11 a.m. in southwestern Minnesota around Marshall.

🚨 Man who led Minnesota State Patrol through Floyd unrest, helped pass hands-free driving law leaves

The head of the Minnesota State Patrol announced that he’s leaving to take a job with the International Association of Chiefs of Police. Col. Matt Langer has led the state patrol for the past decade and has been with the agency for a quarter century.

🏫 St. Louis Park schools will allow families to opt out of LGBTQ+ books

In a statement, St. Louis Park Public Schools said it was proud of the diverse books in its literacy program and was committed to honoring all students’ identities. The district’s statement stressed that its decision was bound by state law.

🌲 U of M and the Fond du Lac Band of Ojibwe outline a return of homelands to the tribe

Citizens of the Fond du Lac Band, foresters, and community members from around the Cloquet and Carleton County area had an opportunity to address university officials about the proposed return of approximately 3,400 acres to the Fond du Lac Band — land held by the University of Minnesota for the past century. The land also makes up the entirety of where the Cloquet Forestry Center sits.

🏫 Rochester school looking for new symbol after Minnesota law restricts Native mascots

The Minnesota Legislature passed a law last year to end the use of Native mascots in schools. Dakota Middle School’s bison mascot will be replaced after the district was denied an exemption to the new rule by federally recognized tribes in Minnesota and the Tribal Nations Education Committee.
