Holiday shocker: Santaâs little underwater helperDecorating for the holidays is a painstaking effort. Not only do you have to get all the lights right, you have to use extension cords and more just to get them on. Well, an aquarium in Tennessee decided to ask for a little help this year from one of its more electrifyingâ residents. An electric eel named Miguel Wattson has been a resident of the Tennessee Aquarium for some time now, and thanks to a specially configured tank, he can power Christmas lights and a tree just by swimming over to a switch and zapping it. The mini light show has made the eel tank a popular exhibit, but lighting up trees isnât all he does. His tank is outfitted with another switch that sends out tweets every time he lets loose a spark of electricity. You can visit Miguel the Eel on Twitter at @ElectricMiguel. Electric eels are wonders of the natural world. Now, you can learn how they pull off their tricks. pan> Tap or click to see how fish can generate electricity. â |
