Good evening,

Just for one small moment it looked like at least parts of Lancashire might escape from the clutches of Tier three restrictions.

Covid case figures have been falling, albeit slowly and so it seemed there was a glimmer of hope that some of our restaurants at least might be allowed to open in the run-up to Christmas.

That would have been a huge boost for the county in the run-up to the festive season.

Alas, it was not to be and the whole of Lancashire will come out of the national lockdown and go straight into Tier three restrictions for at least two weeks.

We can sit being grumpy about this, which is quite tempting after months of limitations on what we can do. Or we can be glass half full.

Further restrictions will cut the number of cases much more rapidly and by definition cut both the number of deaths and the misery that causes.

We get a review in 14 days when some of the rules may be lifted and then there are five days over Christmas when we can see our loved ones. The finishing line of a vaccine is in sight. Let’s keep going.
