Bernie Sanders supporters heckle speakers at the Democratic National Convention. Michelle Obama nearly brings down the house with her speech. Sen. Mark Madsen abandons the GOP for the Libertarian party.

- A new poll finds nearly half of Utahns have been affected personally by prescription drug abuse [Utah Policy].
- Day one of the Democratic National Convention in Cleveland struck a discordant tone as Bernie Sanders supporters voiced their displeasure from the convention floor [Slate]. Both Sanders and Hillary Clinton's campaign worked overtime to tamp down the delegate revolt [Wall Street Journal]. Comedian Sarah Silverman heckled the "Bernie or Bust" group, saying they were being "ridiculous" [Politico]. A former Sanders spokesperson unleashed a rant on Twitter, telling his backers that nobody stole the election from him [Talking Points Memo].

- First Lady Michelle Obama delivers a stunner of a speech that nearly brought down the house [Vox].
- The feud between Elizabeth Warren and Donald Trump reached another plateau as the Massachusetts senator hammered the GOP nominee, saying he built his fortune by "cheating people" and that he cares "only for himself." [Talking Points Memo]. Trump's campaign couldn't help but respond [Politico].
- Did Donald Trump get a convention bounce? Depends on who you talk to. One election projection says he's in the lead following the Republican convention [Five Thirty Eight]. However, a new national poll shows Trump still trailing [Politico].
- Sen. Mark Madsen, who served as a Utah delegate to the Republican convention, says he will change his party affiliation to Libertarian, and has endorsed Gary Johnson for president [Tribune].
- An audit of embattled Salt Lake County Recorder Gary Ott's office is nearly finished [Deseret News].
- 53 local governmental entities in Utah are proposing some sort of property tax hike this year [Tribune].
- Women are woefully underrepresented in Utah politics [Associated Press].
