I hope you are staying as safe and well as possible at this difficult time.
Through times like this, OZY hopes to continue to serve up content that keeps you informed, challenged, entertained and optimistic about where the world is headed — and how we can, collectively, get through this.
Back in January, before the world changed beyond recognition, I was lucky enough to receive some of the greatest lessons in resilience — how to thrive in times of hardship — that I have ever received. While filming our latest TV show on Hulu, Defining Moments With OZY, I had the chance to meet with several culture-defining celebrities — from Paralympic snowboarder Amy Purdy and pioneering gay NBA star Jason Collins to Pose star Dominique Jackson and actress and activist Jameela Jamil — to discuss the times in their lives that they nearly lost it all, and how they molded that struggle into a pathway to success.
Their stories unravel, just like all of ours, in messy and nonlinear ways, but their journeys are spectacular, provocative and fascinating. Humbly, I think they may be just what the world needs right now.
The latest episode, which premiered on Hulu yesterday, features the former manager for members of Wu-Tang Clan, including the RZA, Sophia Chang, who gets personal about her life in hip-hop and how music helped her channel her rage. It’s a great watch if you’re looking for something to binge on this weekend.
I’d love to hear what you think of the show — whether it helps you contextualize the current global struggle or is just an entertaining distraction. As always, you can reply to this email to let me know your thoughts — and I’d love to hear if you have your own Defining Moment that you’d like to share.
