A Message From the Editor Welcome to 2022! While I spent my last few weeks of December reflecting and resting, we’re now in the first week of January, which means a time of predicting and planning. I know a lot of you are doing the same—especially because when I put a call out for predictions for the coming year in December, I received more energetic and engaging feedback than ever before. I spent a while compiling and organizing these predictions, and over the past two weeks, we’ve been running the best here on LTN. There are a few themes I’ve seen emerge over these predictions, such as risks like ransomware and privacy regulations, opportunities for new technologies like AI, and expected disruptions in COVID-19 and the labor market. But one overarching theme I’ve seen emerge is “confidence.” While there remains a lot of uncertainty in the industry and the world at large, I didn’t see many predictions saying that people won’t know what to do. Instead, I received a number expressing the sentiment that “Yeah, there’s going to be problems. But they can be tackled, and here’s how.” I enjoyed that positivity, and I hope to reflect it. Omicron has shown clearly that flexibility remains paramount, but I’m hopeful that the positive tone of experts’ predictions for this coming year shines through. In case you missed them, here’s the six sets of predictions we’ve published thus far, with the final predictions for business of law and alternative legal service providers coming tomorrow. – Zach Warren, editor-in-chief, Legaltech News |
