Why the First Amendment Is Important in Understanding Trump's Social Media Bans

YouTube is the latest tech platform to temporarily suspend Donald Trump’s account after comments made in a video on Tuesday. You can keep up to date with the latest twists and turns by following Scott Nover's dogged reporting.

The platform joins Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Twitch and others in implementing stricter controls on the President. But with a Joe Biden administration coming up, plus tougher regulatory scrutiny on the platforms, showing some muscle is expected.

If you haven't, check out this Voice piece Adweek published by CEO of The Palmer Group Shelly Palmer on why the First Amendment is so important in understanding Trump's social media bans.

Elsewhere, the year ahead has many questions for the media and marketing industry, like, when in-person events can resume? Rosé at the ready, the answer is June, according to Cannes Lions festival organizers who are planning for an in-person festival. Check out this piece from Ian Zelaya and Ronan Shields who outline what needs to happen.

More deals get done when people gather in person. The true impact of what a virtual Cannes Lions event does to marketing spend is probably buried deep under the impacts of the pandemic, remote working and an economic downturn.

But I would love to hear your thoughts, please get in touch and thanks for reading.
