BoldBrush Recommends: Yu ShuBiographyYu Shu’s realistic portraits and sculptures capture the essence of subjects who convey inner strength and determination despite setbacks and hardships. Born in Chongqing, China, and nurtured by her grandmother, Shu transformed a turbulent childhood into motivation for creating art that inspires others to overcome obstacles and persevere. She trained in the classical art tradition at the REAL Academy of Art in Denver, Colorado, and continues her artistic journey in Taiwan with a mentorship under the painting master Yim Maukun. Maukun’s focus on narrative and portrait paintings, and his philosophies of using selective details, artistic rhythm and expressive brushstrokes drew Shu to his work. Shu not only seeks to achieve technical mastery, but also on capture each subject’s unique spirit. She expresses the beauty of individuals realizing personal potential that ultimately leads to positive societal impact. In November 2023, the magazine American Art Collector featured her painting, First Glance, as part of the American Artists Professional League’s annual roundup of the year’s 100 most prominent realistic artworks. The Skylight Gallery of New York’s Salmagundi Club hosted the prestigious exhibition. Learn More About Yu Shu and Berkshire Legends FASO Loves Scott W. Prior’s oil paintings! See More of Scott W.
