Newsletter ZEISS Nature Observation
Dear Reader,
How great would it be to follow storks, cranes, geese and cuckoos towards the south? Whether from space, relaxed lying in a meadow or directly from the beach: bird migration in fall always captivates one in an incomparable way.
Project ICARUS, International Cooperation for Animal Research Using Space, follows the migration of smaller species like birds, bats and insects from the ISS via satellites.

Bats: Every move worth a fast look
Apropos bats: They are the beauties of the night, mysterious as much as enthralling. Whoever wants to observe bats must be very quick. During the last weekend of August, thousands of observers met for the International Bat Night for numerous events around the chiropterans. Find out more here:

Hope for the Northern Bald Ibis
Unlike the bats, the Northern Bald Ibis has not survived human population growth in Europe unscathed. Globally, the species is critically endangered. BirdLife International, ZEISS and Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation have committed themselves to the conservation of the species in Morocco. The population of the Northern Bald Ibis is now growing again, which gives causes much needed hope for the years to come.
