This is Shanda. Your Support Helped Expand Her World. | A participating athlete in the Face of America bicycle ride from Arlington to Gettysburg, Shanda Taylor Boyd was working as an in-patient Behavioral Health Nurse at Washington's Madigan Army Medical Center in 2004 when she received a Traumatic Brain Injury. Medically retired from the Army in 2006, she reports it has been a long road to recovery. "It's events precisely such as World T.E.A.M. Sports that believe in us and call us the 'exceptional athlete,'" Shanda reports. "At this moment, I'm crying tears of joy because your generous supporters, donors and sponsors help give us not only something to look forward to each year, but we also have the camaraderie, unspoken trust and understanding when we share the road with sisters and brothers of different abilities." |

A Moving Memorial Face of America 2002 Following the September 11, 2001 attacks upon America, World T.E.A.M. Sports redirected its Face of America bicycle ride to a New York City to Arlington, Virginia route. The three day, 277 mile ride from Ground Zero in New York to the Pentagon in Arlington saw more than 1,400 adaptive and able-bodied participants riding in honor of the victims of the attacks.
Retired CNN correspondent Peter Viles created a short video of the ride, "Face of America 2002: A Moving Memorial," which captures the spirit of this exceptional event. 2017 marks the 15th anniversary of Face of America. Make your gift in support of a rider today! |
