Interest rate hike to continue affecting consumer debt With the Federal Reserve's announcement of a 25-basis-point increase in interest rates, consumers should expect to see most of their monthly bills to rise as well, experts said, including credit cards, mortgage payments and auto loan payments for new buyers. LendingTree's chief credit analyst, Matt Schulz, advises consumers to consolidate their high-interest credit card bills in a personal loan, for which they may get favorable rates if their credit score is good enough.
