MEDIA WINNER: Dana Bash CNN’s Dana Bash got Sen.Rick Scott (R-FL) to squirm on air in an impressive interview Sunday. Scott joined Bash to discuss the devastating impact Hurricane Ian had on his state, but was left squirming after the CNN anchor asked about former President Donald Trump referring to Elaine Chao as Mitch McConnell’s "China loving wife, Coco Chow." Bash confronted the senator by asking if he was "okay with this" as the National Republican Senate Committee chairman. Scott deflected, attributing the Chao jab to Trump's penchant for giving people nicknames, and naturally went on to attack Democrats instead. "You can ask him how he came up with the nickname," Scott added. "I’m sure he has a nickname for me." Scott went on to say, "We’ve got to watch how we spend our money," adding, "We’ve got to stop this inflation and I don’t condone violence and I hope no one else condones violence." “Nicknames are one thing, but this appears racist,” Bash interjected. “Is that okay?” “It’s never, ever okay to be racist,” Scott said, again failing to implicate Trump at all. He then hoped "no one is racist," adding, "I hope no one says anything inappropriate, so I’m gonna do everything I can.” In a second praiseworthy interview this Sunday, Bash pushed Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) to explain why he’s seeking federal help after Hurricane Ian when he opposed relief bills in the past for natural disasters in other states. |
