PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT USA Network picked up a second season of The Purge. A co-production with Blumhouse Television and Universal Cable Productions, the show is USA’s #1 drama, averaging 1.2 million A18-49 and 2.3 million P2+. The series’ season finale aired on Tuesday. Drawing on the comics and characters from DC’s Vertigo imprint, The CW is developing Survivor’s Club, a drama series written by Jared Frieder (MTV’s Sweet/Vicious). It centers on a world where horror franchise monsters are real and twins Jason and Jennifer barely survived a demonic childhood possession that claimed their mother’s life and fractured their bond; ten years later, the siblings join forces with other teen survivors to battle a new evil force. CBS greenlit a drama from writer-producer Josh Reims (Dynasty), actor-writer-producer Lance Krall, Jerry Bruckheimer Television and CBS TV Studios. The untitled project, which will be written by Reims, looks at the complicated lives of med students, residents and attending physicians at the elite Uniformed Services University, where every doctor is also a trained soldier. Series is being done in partnership with the Uniformed Services University and the Pentagon. According to Deadline, Cary Fukunaga and David Lowery are teaming to write a pilot script for Paramount Television. The project is based on the 1985 coming-of-age sci-fi film Explorers, which starred Ethan Hawke and River Phoenix. Doctor Who writer Toby Whithouse is set to pen and executive produce Fremantle’s adaptation of Gormenghast.
