Argentina becomes first country to approve GM wheat Argentina has become the first country to approve the growth and consumption of genetically modified wheat, the country's agriculture ministry announced. The ministry's scientific commission said in a statement that it had approved a drought-resistant variety of wheat in the world's fourth-largest exporter of the crop. Yahoo! GMO cultivation has only not been allowed in the UK because only one GM crop has been approved for cultivation at the EU level and that isn't suitable for the UK.
