Hi John š ā If you're like me, it can be hard to stay focused on your goals. I have struggled at this for decades, but about two years ago, I started getting a handle on it. This year, I have clearly defined areas of focus, and I have never been more productive. ā At the beginning of this year, I wrote down everything I was giving my attention to in work and personal life. The list was so long! ā I took that list and put everything into categories. I tried my best to group things to figure out what areas in my life were consuming the most time. It took a while to complete this. I have given myself the month of January to figure all of this out. ā Once I had my focus areas clearly defined and the list of things I was spending time on organized, I started culling that list. Culling is the act of reduction. I needed to reduce the spread of my focus and narrow it down to focus on the areas that matter most. ā Here are my focus areas: ā Personal Life: Family - 60% of my non-work time is to be devoted to my family Self - 40% of non-work time devoted to self-development and personal projectsWork-Life: Hill Media Group - Digital Marketing Agency Jerad Hill Co. - Personal Brand and Online Courses State of Tech - Mobile Technology YouTube Channel Gear & Light - Photography & Video YouTube Channelā Having clearly defined focus areas will keep me from getting distracted. I am easily distracted and find myself chasing new ideas when I haven't completed other projects. I wouldn't have been able to visualize this if I hadn't made a complete list of everything I spent doing. I have added monthly check-ins to my calendar to get notified to visit my Focus Areas list for a reminder. ā I challenge you to make a list of everything you are doing, down to the smallest actions like brushing your teeth every day. Look at what you are spending your time on in your personal and work life. Determine areas that need to be cut out or given to someone else to complete. Doing this will help you find more time to focus on what matters to you. ā Thanks for taking the time to read this email. This process was such an eye-opener for me I had to share it with you. ā I hope your year is off to a great start! ā Jerad Hill ā
