HighlightsZentralbankenpolitik als Angriff auf die Freiheit Menschen geben im liberalen Verständnis Teile ihrer Freiheiten ab, wenn sie sich in einem Staat vergesellschaften. Um den Staat daran zu hindern, die Restfreiheiten einzuschränken, wurden Grundrechte als Abwehrrechte gegen staatliche Tätigkeiten konzipiert. Mit dem verhängnisvollen Aufkommen der Interpretation von Grundrechten als Leistungsaufträge an den Staat mutieren ebendiese Rechte insgesamt zu Mitteln des Staates, die Freiheiten der Menschen weiter einzuschränken. Beispiele, die dieser Logik folgen, sind die «unorthodoxe Geldpolitik» und das sich abzeichnende Bargeldverbot, wie Henrique Schneider in einem aktuellen LI-Paper aufzeigt. Ein Denker der Freiheit und der Utopie 2022 jährte sich der Todestag des Philosophen Robert Nozick zum 20. Mal. Auch wenn Nozick Vorstellungen davon hatte, wie eine Gemeinschaft aussehen könnte, in der er gerne leben wollte, billigte er dieses Recht auch allen anderen zu, wie Sascha Tamm in einem aktuellen Beitrag aufzeigt. Für Nozick war klar, dass die Menschen sehr unterschiedliche Vorstellungen davon haben, welche Formen des Zusammenlebens richtig und erstrebenswert sind. Deshalb kam er zum Schluss, dass es keinen bis ins Detail regulierten Gesellschaftsentwurf für alle, sondern einen Minimalstaat brauche, der lediglich den Rahmen für die einzelnen Gemeinschaften bilden würde. Ohne Freiheit kein Umweltschutz Ein wichtiger Grundsatz der Juristerei lautet: «In dubio pro reo» (im Zweifel für den Angeklagten). Wem nicht mit an mit Sicherheit grenzender Wahrscheinlichkeit nachgewiesen werden kann, dass er anderen Schaden zugefügt hat, der darf auch nicht bestraft werden. Was bedeutet das nun für die Klimapolitik? Olivier Kessler geht in einem aktuellen Beitrag dieser Frage nach. Weil der Einfluss des Menschen für das Weltklima wissenschaftlich nicht bewiesen werden kann, lassen sich Strafmassnahmen wie neue Steuern oder Verbote nicht begründen. Vielmehr stellen solche Massnahmen selbst einen ungerechtfertigten Angriff auf elementare Freiheitsrechte dar. Vom Mitleid zur Mitfreude Das Einfühlungsvermögen gegenüber den Bedürfnissen anderer spielt in einer Marktwirtschaft eine zentrale Rolle. Es geht dabei allerdings nicht nur um das Mitgefühl mit Menschen in einer unglücklichen Situation, wie Robert Nef in einem aktuellen Beitrag zu bedenken gibt. Es geht auch darum, sich für andere freuen zu können, wenn diese ihr Glück mehren, indem sie sich durch freiwilligen Tausch besserstellen. Die Fähigkeit zur Mitfreude und zum Mitgenuss anstelle von Neid erzeugt eine andere und liberalere Art der Solidarität als der Zusammenschluss der Frustrierten und Neiderfüllten, die eine Triebfeder des etatistischen Sozialismus bildet.
