Crews from the city of Minneapolis today removed some barriers at the intersection of 38th Street and Chicago Avenue known as George Floyd Square. The site had been closed to vehicles and became a memorial after Floyd was killed by a Minneapolis police officer there last year. Community organizer Steve Floyd is a co-founder of the Agape Movement, which has provided security in the area. He says the community wanted to see the area reopened to make it more safe. But many said they were opposed to the move. Angela Harrelson, George Floyd's aunt who lives in the Twin Cities, says she never got notice from the city about reopening the square and called the city's actions divisive. Activists plan to hold a rally at George Floyd Square tonight and some helped rebuild barriers where the city had removed them.
