HighlightsDie schädliche Wirkung der Inflation Die Inflation hat in den letzten Monaten merklich angezogen, was angesichts der wahnwitzigen Geldvermehrung der Zentralbanken nicht überraschen kann. Zur Rechtfertigung dieser expansiven Geldpolitik wird gerne behauptet, diese sei im Sinne des Allgemeinwohls. Olivier Kessler geht der Behauptung in einem aktuellen LI-Paper auf den Grund und kommt zu einem anderen Schluss: Für breite Schichten sind sinkende Preise vorteilhafter als steigende, weil Güter und Dienstleistungen so erschwinglicher werden. Dass deflationären Kryptowährungen mit begrenzter Geldmenge in den Geldwettbewerb mit inflationären Staatswährungen eintreten, könnte eine disziplinierende Wirkung entfalten. Die Regierenden sind nicht haftbar und haben keine wirtschaftlichen Nachteile zu befürchten, wenn sie schlechte Entscheidungen treffen. Den Regierten wird vorgegaukelt, dass sie sich «kostenlose» Leistungen per Stimmabgabe in die Tasche wählen könnten. Dies politisiert das staatliche Gewaltmonopol und führt zu ständigen Ãnderungen des «Gesellschaftsvertrags». Ergebnis ist ein endloser Kampf um die politische Vorherrschaft und um Sonderprivilegien. Titus Gebel schlägt in einem aktuellen LI-Paper eine friedliche und freiwillige Alternative zum politischen Status quo vor. Limitierung der Staatsmacht An der LI-Konferenz und Buchvernissage vom 24. Mai in Zürich wurden verschiedene Strategien zur Eindämmung der problematischen Staatsgewalt diskutiert. Zur Debatte standen etwa eine Politikerhaftung, um die Kosten von politischen Fehlentscheiden zu erhöhen. Auch wurde eine Demokratiereform vorgeschlagen, wonach sich Mehrheitsentscheidungen auf einige wenige funktionalen Aspekte konzentrieren sollten, jedoch nicht grenzenlos auf alles anwendbar sein dürfen, wenn es nicht in eine Mehrheitsdiktatur ausarten soll. Es stellte sich dabei heraus, dass sich eine Erhöhung der Verwaltungsausgaben hinderlich auf das reale Wirtschaftswachstum auswirkt. Eine detailliertere Betrachtung der Ausgabepositionen zeigt, dass sich sowohl die relativen Ausgaben für Legislative und Exekutive wie für allgemeine Dienste als Unterkategorien der Verwaltungsausgaben negativ auf das Wirtschaftswachstum auswirken.
