Greetings!
As this year comes to a close, I am filled with gratitude for you and for how this farmers market community has stuck together through the roller coaster of the last three years. You prove the power of this community to nourish one another, while championing our values of sustainability, equity, and care.
With 16 hours left in 2022, we are just $8,180 away from our $60,000 year-end goal to support farms, food access, and education in the New Year. Will you help get us to the finish line?
With inflation and food prices are soaring, food stamp usage has tripled at our farmers markets, as Bay Area families struggle to make ends meet. Our farmers face unprecedented challenges: climate change, drought, labor shortages. With your support in 2022, we distributed more than $115,000 in Market Match tokens at Foodwise farmers markets, so that families using CalFresh (food stamps) could buy twice as much fresh food, while directing thousands of dollars to California farmers. Through our Foodwise Kids and Foodwise Teens programs, 2,500 SFUSD students nurtured critical food and job skills. We relaunched our free public education programs, welcoming thousands of visitors to learn, participate, and share in the bounty of the farmers market together.
