It’s a walk she has made many times but, one night, she’s followed by a man who tries to get her into his van. Relieved to have escaped, Marie’s story speaks to the threat Indigenous women confront on a daily basis. NDNs on the AirwavesDirector: Jackson 2Bears | Producer: Janet Rogers Pushing the form of documentary, NDNs on the Airwaves uses poetry, soundscapes and voice in this mash-up style of storytelling. Director Jackson 2Bears follows the extraordinary soundscapes and work of Janet Rogers as she journeys back home to Six Nations, over the airwaves, as she finds her own voice and that of her people. Cree Code TalkerDirector: Alexandra Lazarowich | Producer: Cowboy Smithx Using archival footage and interviews with his brothers, Cree Code Talker depicts the true story of Albertan Charles ‘Checker’ Tomkins and how the Cree language was used by code talkers to transmit crucial military communications for the US Air Force during WWII. Jane and the WolfDirector: Nadine Arpin | Producer: Rachel Garrick A hybrid documentary that incorporates cinéma vérité, archival photographs and animation. In the 1960s, Pagwa River was a booming railroad town populated by second generation Crees. During one cold winter, the community was being stalked by a lone wolf. Every attempt to kill the wolf failed. Jane recognized the wolf as a spirit sign from the ancestors. Ridiculed for her beliefs, Jane set out alone to kill the wolf using the old ways.
