| |  |  |  |  | Christmas Eve and Christmas as Christian holidays were not wanted in the socialism of the GDR. Religious holidays simply did not fit into the workers' and farmers' state. The birth of Jesus Christ was not to be celebrated, but a secularly reinterpreted »festival of peace«. For the population, however, the Christmas holidays were important holidays even in the GDR. Children learned Christmas carols in kindergarten or school, Christmas decorations were made, there were school holidays, Christmas parties were held in companies and there was also a Christmas programme on television. In the followingblog post, we have collected ten objects from our collection that represent a typical Christmas day in the GDR. Have fun remembering! |  |  |  |  |
