Why women in some western states are falling behind, Republicans die younger except in Utah and THE CLAW will soon be taking visitors! 👽
Good morning, Utah Today readers! Here’s today’s forecast: 🌤 43 – 83° in Logan |💧 10% chance 🌥 62 – 87° in Salt Lake City |💧 20% chance ⛈️ 68 – 92° in St. George | 💧 30% chance We have taken to doing very scientific taste tests around the Deseret News offices of late for two of my favorite things: Diet Coke and cookies. 🥤 Hanna Seariac conducted painstaking research on the differences between Coke Zero (ew!) and Diet Coke, and I cannot believe I was not tapped for this important study. I consider myself a connoisseur of Diet Coke. So much so that when a former colleague of mine asked me for a favor a few years ago, he called me to ask if I was a white wine person or a red wine person. Without hesitation I said, “I’m a Diet Coke person.” He showed up to my office the next day with two flats of Diet Coke from Costco as a gift to show his gratitude. 🍪 Since Crumbl and Dirty Dough aren’t taking my idea to settle their differences in a “Great British Bake Off” style competition, our staff writers had to roll up their sleeves and do the dirty work themselves. We ordered cookies from both stores and did a taste test. Our writers did not hold back on their opinions. Tell me: Which do you think is better? Reply with your responses: Diet Coke or Coke Zero? (There is a correct answer on this one.) Crumbl or Dirty Dough? Also on our minds: Why women in some western states are falling behind, Republicans die younger everywhere except in Utah and THE CLAW at the Living Planet Aquarium will soon be taking visitors! 👽 |
| Perspective: It’s National Good Neighbor Day. Do you know who yours are? |

| | September 28 is National Good Neighbor Day — how well do you know your neighbors? In this piece, Shaylyn Romney Garrett talks about her experiences with one particularly good neighbor and makes the argument why America needs us to form better communities. She says: “Terry is old enough to be my father. On political matters, we disagree about almost everything. Religiously, we don’t see eye to eye. But when I look back on the years I spent in that neighborhood, I treasure my friendship with Terry, and hold it in my heart as an example of the power of neighborliness to heal America’s personal, social and political divides.” | According to Former Vice President Mike Pence at a speech he gave at Utah Valley University, the nation needs “strong, principled conservative leadership” and endorsed incumbent Sen. Mike Lee for reelection. What else did he say? Read more here. More in Politics: Poll: How worried are Utahns about the Great Salt Lake?
