🏀 Minnesota Lynx ‘dynasty’ talk grows among fans excited about a WNBA final. As the Lynx begin their best-of-five series with the New York Liberty on Thursday, fans say they’re excited about the possibility of another championship, and what they hope will be a winning team for the long run. ❌ Mayor Frey vetoes carbon emission fee adopted by city council. Advocates say the fees aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by six percent in 2025 by funding programs that assist businesses in cutting their greenhouse gas output. 🐔 Thousands of chickens to be culled after Minnesota poultry company faces financial problems. Minnesota farmers under contract to a struggling local poultry company have been scrambling to care for thousands of chickens in recent days. 🗣️ Advocacy group hails housing developers‘ commitments to worker protections. CTUL board chair Douglas Guerra says the program will improve the lives of non-union workers. He spoke in Spanish, with CTUL executive director Merle Payne translating into English.
☄️ A rare comet brightens the night skies in October. Comet Tsuchinshan-Atlas should be bright enough to see with the naked eye, but binoculars and telescopes will give a better view. ⚡ Officials celebrate northern Minnesota power line that could one day help make ‘green’ steel. Minnesota Power’s transmission line is one of only a handful of existing HVDC lines in the country. These lines transmit electricity more efficiently over long distances than alternating current, or AC lines. 🤣 Comedy takes over Minneapolis stages for 10,000 Laughs festival. The festival has expanded to venues across the city, including Pantages Theatre, First Avenue, Parkway Theater, Sisyphus Brewing and Theatre in the Round. This year’s national headliners include David Cross, Ali Macofsky, Rory Scovel, Mike E. Winfield, Katherine Blanford and Pete Holmes. 🎃 Art Hounds: Get in the Halloween Spirit. Minnesota artists recommend a play centered on a wily witch. Also: Lanesboro’s Commonweal Theatre produces the Pulitzer-winning play, “Doubt.” |
