Ford Motor Co. returned to the city of Detroit earlier this year for the first time in decades. Then last week the company made an even bigger splash in purchasing the dilapidated Michigan Central Station. On Tuesday, Ford unveiled its grand vision for the iconic train station during an on-site ceremony before thousands in rapt attention. Ford President and CEO Jim Hackett laid out a plan for the venerable station, which stood vacant for 30 years in Detroit's Corktown neighborhood. Restoring the property is expected to take three to four years. Eventually, Ford's new Central Station campus will include office space for 2,500 Ford employees, room for 2,500 workers from other businesses, and retail, residential and community spaces.
