As Pfizer prepares to ship COVID-19 vaccine, Michigan manufacturing plant takes center stage From CNN to NBC, the nation's attention was focused on Portage, Michigan Thursday as Pfizer prepares to ship its COVID-19 vaccine. After hours of presentations and discussion around the safety, effectiveness and distribution of the vaccine, the FDA’s Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee voted 17-4 Thursday evening to recommend approval of the company's COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use. Michigan state Sen. Sean McCann, D-Kalamazoo, said the latest achievements by Pfizer highlight the area’s history of scientific and medical innovation. He said there’s a great sense of pride knowing that friends and neighbors are the ones punching in to work at the Pfizer plant and bring the world a solution to the pandemic. More recently, it’s been Star Line ferry’s winter workhorse. Star Line holds the winter contract for the island, and the steel-hulled Huron is the ferry that runs during the winter and early spring seasons. As in past years, Mackinac Island ferry fans were delighted recently to see pictures showing The Mighty Huron decked out for the holiday season.
