For decades, coal plants operated in Michigan to provide electricity to the state's residents. Now that they are closing down, one issue remains -- the coal ash left on the shores of the Great Lakes State. The industrial waste is known to contain toxins, and it's bound to linger in shoreline landfills indefinitely. Officials consider the dumps a safe solution for the waste. Others aren't so sure.
