Timing couldn't be more 'perfect' for an April snowstorm across southern Michigan Oh no. Snow? In late April? Well, yeah. This is Michigan, after all. While that might sound like a dream vacation to some, the trip is actually part of Lackey’s work as a Huron Pines AmeriCorps member serving with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. The plan, named “Project Rustic,” is to visit 77 of Michigan’s 145 state forest campgrounds across Northern Lower Michigan and the Upper Peninsula to help improve information access for backcountry travelers to these remote and often little-known sites.
