Join your local resident group
Did you know the City of Cockburn is home to 22 resident groups? Pictured are a handful of the fabulous faces of our resident group committee members across the City. Maybe you recognise someone here.
Resident groups are made up of highly engaged and community-minded residents who volunteer their time to make their suburb the best place to be. Here at Cockburn Community we get to see first-hand the incredible work done by these groups to create community connections at a grass-roots level.
This looks like:
Hosting community meetings and forums
Organising community events such as BBQs, neighbour networking, movie nights, Christmas events, markets, morning teas
Managing their suburbs Facebook pages to share local news
Promoting sustainability with swap-and-share events, clean-up days, and supporting community gardens
And so much more!
These groups are continually evolving and their work requires community-minded residents to step up and contribute. If you are looking to get more involved in your community, why not consider supporting your local resident group.

Women's Storytelling workshop
Are you a Cockburn woman with a story to tell? Whether it's a personal tale of triumph, a heartwarming memory, or a lesson learned, your story deserves to be heard.
Join us for a free storytelling workshop on 24 May 6-8pm at Coolbellup Hub (90 Cordelia Avenue, Coolbellup).
For those who would like to take this further, there is the opportunity to share your story at the Connecting Women in Cockburn networking evening on 14 June.

Disability Awareness Training for groups and clubs
Come along to a free Disability Awareness Training workshop on Wednesday 10 May, 6-8pm at City of Cockburn admin building (o Coleville Crescent, Spearwood).
This workshop is designed for Cockburn groups and clubs to increase your awareness and understanding of disabilities and help you feel comfortable, equipped and knowledgeable in supporting and managing volunteers or staff with a disability.

Writing Successful Grant Applications & Sponsorship Proposals Do you want to know the secrets of how to significantly increase your chances of securing grants and sponsorship for your organisation?
Get along to this free workshop for clubs and groups on Tuesday 23 May, 6-8pm at Cockburn CRC (40 Birchley Rd, Yangebup).
This workshop is designed for Cockburn sporting clubs but features fundraising information relevant for all community organisations.

Bullfinch Park planting morning
The City of Cockburn and Spearwood Progress Association are hosting a planting morning on Saturday 27 May, 9-11am at Bullfinch Park (4B Bullfinch Street).
The City will provide gloves, shovels and plants, along with a morning tea for volunteers. Many hands make light work. Come along and help make Bullfinch Park a greener space.

What can you do on your verge?
The City encourages residents, property owners, and managers to maintain their verges for a better-looking suburb and improved biodiversity and wildlife habitat. Homeowners are responsible for mowing, mulching, pruning, weeding, and watering their verge and can install fruit and vegetable planters and hard surface treatments with approval from the City.
Verge improvements can include waterwise design and plantings, low groundcovers, and mulched gardens, among other things. However, some items are not allowed on the verge for safety reasons.
The City is responsible for pruning residential verge trees, and residents can apply for a residential verge tree on the City's website. By maintaining the verge, residents create a more sustainable and attractive community. |

Jandakot and Treeby water pipeline
The Water Corporation is constructing a new 2.6km water pipeline underneath Beeliar Drive and Armadale Road and then along Solomon Road in Treeby, to help meet the service demands of the new division. More on the pipeline

Safety upgrades for busy Spearwood roundabout
One of Cockburn’s busiest roundabouts at the Spearwood Avenue and Hamilton Road intersection in Spearwood has been made safer thanks to $507,245 from the Federal Government’s Black Spot Program. More on traffic and transport
Notice of public censure
The Local Government Panel has found that Councillor Michael Separovich, a Councillor for the City of Cockburn breached Regulation 20 of the Local Government (Model Code of Conduct) Regulations 2021 when he threatened Mr Donald Mervyn Green, who was at the time the City’s Complaints Officer, in relation to a minor breach complaint that was made against him by a member of the public. Councillor Separovich’s conduct was wrongful and inappropriate and deserving of a penalty and, further, his comments were likely to cause detriment to Mr Green. The Panel censures Councillor Separovich for the breach of Regulation 20 of the Local Government (Model Code of Conduct) Regulations 2021. |
