Once Christmas music starts playing, the trees go up and the wish lists are compiled, I know an email I'll get: Mozilla's latest warning about popular tech gifts that are just awful when it comes to privacy.

This year's *Privacy Not Included guide ranks over 150 gadgets across different categories by what data they collect and what they do with it. Mozilla does a great job at these lists, for sure.

We're not talking randomized info about where you live and when you use the product. We should be so lucky. Check these out:

More bad news: Sonos, Eufy and Bose used to be on Mozilla's nice list. Not anymore. And Amazon, Samsung and Microsoft Xbox have gone from bad to worse. Let's take a closer look.

The naughty list is long

Smart home: Every Google product, including its Nest line, now has a privacy warning. Wyze's security breaches that could let strangers peek into your home make it another company to be wary of. Amazon's Ring is still cozy with law enforcement and hasn't fixed some security gaps.

Entertainment: Tile trackers made Mozilla's naughty list after its parent company, Life360, faced a lawsuit for selling location data without permission. Samsung not only has an almost impossible-to-read privacy policy, but it collects a ton of data — and accidentally fed sensitive info to ChatGPT this year. Oops.

Health and fitness: Fitbit now requires a Google account. It promises to keep health data separate from your Google account, but I'm not sure I buy that. The AngelSense GPS Watch for kids is at the top of the "creepy" rankings.

Not all is gloomy in tech land!

Mozilla's "nice" list, aka tech that respects your privacy, hasn't been released yet, but I got a sneak peek.

I have to tell you about my favorite printer — and good timing because I just got another email from someone annoyed when their ink ran out right when they needed it.

🍏 Green with envy: Goodbye, “green bubble shame.” Starting next year, Apple says iPhones will support RCS, the text standard used by most Android phones. That means, yep, if you’re on Team Android and text someone on Team Apple, your messages will be blue, too. The catch: RCS messages aren’t end-to-end encrypted. There’s always something.

Amazon scam alert: Now that shopping season is in full force, watch out for urgent Amazon account suspension threats and Prime membership scams via call, email or text. Stick to the official Amazon website or app for updates on your orders or account. Email and texts are just too phishy.

🚫 ChatGPT Plus on eBay: OpenAI’s sign-ups are paused due to high demand, and some people are selling ChatGPT Plus subscriptions on eBay. Yeah, there are fakes. Skip it and wait for official access instead.

Windows, everywhere: Microsoft’s new Windows App turns iPhones, iPads, Macs and PCs into Windows wannabes. You can stream Windows 365, tweak your displays and connect peripherals remotely. Right now, it's in VIP access for business accounts and testing for home users. Never thought I’d see this happen.

“Beat It”: A North Carolina man thought he struck gold selling Michael Jackson's autograph for $795. Then, his moonwalk turned into a legal tightrope. The 75-year-old former U.S. Customs employee may face up to $100,000 in fines and a year in prison for illegally selling an official customs declaration. Yes, he took it from work.

Sugar saga: Remember when social media was packed with people saying, "Hey, soda's not so bad for you!" The FTC says influencers hired by Coke- and Pepsi-backed groups were mighty tricky about promoting sugary products. Some posts had no disclosures, and others buried them in text. The FTC warns to disclose or face up to $50,120 per violation. Lesson learned: Don't sugarcoat the truth.

¡Ay, car-amba! Amazon will start selling cars next year. You can add a vehicle to your cart, pay for it, and pick it up at a nearby dealership or have it delivered to your home. Oh, the porch pirates are going to have a field day!

Just because you stopped using an app doesn’t mean it isn’t working in the background. Like a bad ex, an app you’ve forgotten about can still access your contacts.

Unlike that ex, revoking third-party app permissions you granted to your Google account is easy. Here’s how:
